Where you go for that support is entirely up to you – there are many paths forward. But you have to go forward, and that’s not an easy direction. Part of my sobriety journey involves forgiving myself for being a truly atrocious and high-maintenance friend to some pretty amazing people. Even now, this sage advice makes me want to throw up a little in my mouth. But it’s really, painfully, genuinely true.
- We are obsessed with our own pain and shortcomings but rarely think of others.
- I look at them and there’s a part of me that envies their ability to put down a drink, to enjoy alcohol responsibly without having it take over their lives.
- I LOVE not having to feel bad about something stupid or mean I said when drunk.
- There’s the real you in there, buried deep, but it’s suffocating under the weight of addiction, problems, and (in my case) untreated mental health problems like depression or anxiety.

Chris Carlier, who started documenting Japan’s many (many) mascots in 2016 via the social media accounts Mondo Mascots, is working on a book of his mascot photos. «You don’t need kids to care about your fellow human beings,» Oliver shot back. Oliver said it’s been a «pretty terrible [week] for Trump’s pick to be his next VP, JD Vance, because he spent sobriety sucks the week on the campaign trail where his performance was, to say the least, underwhelming.» I’m no longer a self-absorbed, sad woman drinking herself into oblivion every night. And one day, you’ll look back and think, “Oh my gosh, I can’t believe I was ever like that! ” You just have to faith that you can. You’ll reach a point where you accept that there are some difficulties ahead of you, but you’re not afraid of them. You don’t feel defined by your past as strongly. Whatever it is, if you keep working on your sobriety and believing that you have the power to change your life, you will do exactly that.

I love being sober
- If you’re starting from zero and struggling to find something positive about yourself to genuinely believe, I recommend forgetting about yourself for a minute and think of others.
- My biggest fears in life include being in large groups of strange people, standing at parties by myself, and really just people in general.
- Additionally, I examine the way mental and physical health as well as our relationships with others impact the reasons people drink and their role in maintaining sobriety long-term.
- They can feel overwhelming and like they will never end.
