Corralejo has something very few destinations in Europe can offer: radically different landscapes within just a few minutes of each other. In less than half an hour you can go from the most spectacular dunes in the Atlantic to a colourful fishing harbour, through whitewashed village streets and black volcanic rock beaches. For a photographer, it’s a paradise.
After years shooting sessions in Corralejo and its surroundings, these are the six locations I recommend most to my clients — with my advice on the best time to visit and what to expect at each one.
1. Corralejo Natural Park (Sand Dunes)
If I had to choose just one location to work in for the rest of my life, I’d choose the dunes without hesitation.
Corralejo Natural Park is one of the most breathtaking natural environments in the Canary Islands. Over 2,500 hectares of white sand that take on an almost lunar quality, and at sunset, when the warm light transforms everything into shades of gold and amber, it becomes simply extraordinary.
2. Playa del Moro and Playa de los Lagos
Just a few minutes from central Corralejo, these beaches have water so intensely turquoise it looks edited. But this is simply what the Atlantic looks like in this corner of Fuerteventura.
They’re beaches with very few tourists, which means more privacy and freedom to move around. The natural backdrop of water, white sand and open sky creates clean, luminous photos with that sense of space that’s so hard to achieve on busier beaches.
3. Corralejo Harbour
The old harbour in Corralejo has a completely different character from the rest: fishing boats, nets, vividly coloured facades and the quiet energy of an authentic coastal village. It’s perfect if you’re after a more lifestyle, relaxed and characterful feel.
The seafront walls and reflections in the water create very photogenic backdrops for portraits with real personality. It’s not the most «spectacular» location in the natural sense, but it has an authenticity that comes through beautifully in photos.
4. Corralejo Old Town
The old part of Corralejo, with its narrow streets, whitewashed walls and painted doors, is one of the most versatile backdrops I work with. It suits almost any type of session and almost any time of day.
It doesn’t have the immediate «wow» of the dunes, but it has something the dunes don’t: human scale. Photos taken in the old town feel more intimate, more personal. They’re often the ones clients love most when they see them for the first time.
5. Popcorn Beach
Popcorn Beach — also known as Playa Bajo Negro — is a special location: it doesn’t appear in any guidebook, but everyone who finds it comes back. The floor is covered in small black volcanic pebbles (hence the name) with completely crystal-clear water above and a beautifully visible seabed below.
The contrast between the black stones, the blue water and tanned skin creates photos with striking visual impact. It’s my favourite location for sessions that want to be genuinely different from anything else.
6. Las Salinas del Carmen (South of the island)
This one is for clients who want something completely different and are happy to make a 45-50 minute drive from Corralejo. Las Salinas del Carmen, in the municipality of Tuineje, is a unique natural-industrial landscape: sheets of water in different shades of pink, white and grey, surrounded by old volcanic stone architecture.
It looks like another planet. The photos that come out of here don’t look like anything else you’ve seen in Fuerteventura.

It all depends on what you’re looking for in your photos:
Most spectacular, most photogenic natural backdrop: The Dunes.
Turquoise water and a luminous beach feel: Playa del Moro or Playa de los Lagos.
Urban, lifestyle, relaxed character: Harbour + Old Town.
Something visually striking and genuinely unique: Popcorn Beach or Las Salinas.
For boudoir: Dunes at sunrise (privacy, space) or Popcorn Beach (discretion and a distinctive backdrop).
