Fuerteventura has over 150 kilometres of coastline. Not all beaches are equal for photography — some have extraordinary light at specific times of day, others offer privacy that’s impossible to find at the busiest tourist spots, and a few have that rare visual quality that turns a good photo into one that stays with you.
I’ve spent years photographing across the whole island. These are my seven favourite beaches for photo sessions — ranked not by tourist popularity but by photographic potential.
1. Playa de Cofete — the most dramatic
If you had to choose just one beach in Fuerteventura for a photo session that genuinely impresses, it would be this one. Cofete is a wild beach almost 12 kilometres long at the southern tip of the Jandía Peninsula, with the Jandía massif rising dramatically behind it and the full force of the Atlantic in front.
There are no services, no beach bar tourists, and getting there requires 15 kilometres of dirt track (a car with decent ground clearance is recommended). But the landscape at the end of that road is unlike anything else on the island.
2. El Cotillo Lagoons — the most turquoise
The natural lagoons at El Cotillo, on the north-western tip of the island, are one of Fuerteventura’s best-kept secrets. Volcanic rock reefs form natural pools of completely calm water in a turquoise so intense it’s hard to believe it’s real.
The contrast between the black rock, the blue water and Fuerteventura’s clear skies creates a colour palette that works beautifully with almost any kind of session.
3. Los Lagos / Playa del Moro (Corralejo) — the most accessible
A few minutes from central Corralejo, these beaches offer something hard to combine: easy access and water of extraordinary beauty. The white sandy floor beneath the surface creates a turquoise gradient effect that from the drone is particularly breathtaking.
They’re the beaches I use most for sessions because the combination of access, relative privacy and water quality is hard to beat anywhere on the island.
4. Popcorn Beach (Playa Bajo Negro) — the most unique
I covered Popcorn Beach in my Corralejo locations guide, but it deserves its place here too, because there is simply nothing else like it on the island. Small, smooth black volcanic pebbles, completely crystal-clear water above them, and a seabed visible from the surface.
The visual impact is so strong that photos from here are immediately distinguishable from anything else you’ve seen of Fuerteventura. If you want something genuinely different, this is your beach.
5. Playa de Sotavento — the most spectacular from the air
Sotavento is world-famous for its kitesurfing competitions, but what makes it an exceptional photographic setting is its natural lagoon: when the tide rises, an inland sheet of water several kilometres long forms, with a colour and stillness that from the drone is absolutely extraordinary.
From the ground it works well too, but it’s from the air that Sotavento reveals its full potential.
6. Playa de Esquinzo-Butihondo — the longest and most peaceful
This 8-kilometre beach in the south of the island is one of the least crowded despite being flanked by hotels. Its length and width make it easy to find completely empty stretches — a genuine luxury for photo sessions.
The dark golden sand and contrast with the deep blue Atlantic give photos a warm tone very different from the white of the northern dunes.
7. Playa de la Concha (Corralejo) — the most intimate
Hidden next to Popcorn Beach, this small cove of volcanic rock and white sand has a very different scale from the rest of the beaches on this list. It’s sheltered from the wind, peaceful, and its intimate atmosphere makes it perfect for boudoir or personal sessions where outdoor privacy matters.

Maximum impact, wild landscape: Playa de Cofete.
Turquoise water and natural lagoons: El Cotillo.
Easy access from Corralejo: Los Lagos / Playa del Moro.
Something completely different and unique: Popcorn Beach.
Aerial photography and drone: Sotavento.
Privacy and quiet in the south: Esquinzo-Butihondo.
Intimate session close to Corralejo: Playa de la Concha.
